Pricing and Booking Questions
Money questions come up on nearly every call, so here is how the pricing side runs before you commit to anything.
Call (07) 3067 4271How is the price for a drain job worked out?
Access, depth, pipe material and what caused the blockage all shape the figure, and the plumber confirms it on site before touching anything. You agree a fixed upfront price for the job described, so there is no hourly rate guesswork while the work runs.
Do you charge by the hour?
No. Drain work is priced as a job, not a clock, and the figure is agreed before work begins. That covers the clearing, the testing and whichever method suits the line, whether it is an electric eel, jet blasting or a repair.
When do I pay?
After the work is finished and the line has been tested with water running freely through it. You pay by card or EFTPOS on the day, and the price you agreed beforehand is the price on the invoice.
What if the trouble turns out to be in the street main?
Pipes in the street belong to Unitywater, so a blockage in their mains is their responsibility to clear. We clear your property side, and if the camera shows the trouble sits beyond your boundary we will point you to the right authority.
Services and Methods Questions
Not sure which service you need, or what a particular method involves? These answers sort the jobs from each other.
Call (07) 3067 4271Which drain problems do you handle?
Blocked toilets, sewers and stormwater lines, slow sinks, showers and floor wastes, CCTV drain inspections to find the cause, and pipe repairs or relining where a line is cracked or collapsed. If water will not go down, it is our ground.
Do you do hot water or gas work?
No. This is a drains-only service, carried by a QBCC licensed plumbing and drainage business, so a blocked drain gets full attention. For hot water or gas work you would want a general plumbing service instead.
Is pipe relining an option instead of digging?
Reline work suits a pipe that is cracked or leaking but still standing, and the camera survey confirms whether the barrel is sound enough. A section that has already collapsed usually needs digging, and both options are priced before you decide.
What is the difference between jet blasting and an electric eel?
An electric eel drives a rotating cable through solid blockages, while jet blasting scours the pipe wall with pressurised water to strip silt, grease and root debris. The plumber matches the method to the pipe material and what is sitting in it.
Local Pipe Questions
The headland's ground, salt air and pipe stock shape how drain jobs run here, so these answers deal with the local side of things.
Call (07) 3067 4271Why do older drains around here block more often?
Most of the older house lines on the headland are vitrified clay or asbestos cement, and their joints open as the decades pass. Mature figs and cottonwoods push fine roots into those gaps, and silt follows the roots in.
Does the salt air matter for drains?
It does on the exposed side of the suburb, where sea breezes off Moreton Bay and Bramble Bay corrode balcony plumbing, fittings and tank casings in the unit blocks. External pipework near the foreshore ages faster than it would inland.
What should I do when a drain backs up during a storm?
Stop using taps, toilets and the washing machine, keep clear of any overflow and ring for help. Heavy rain and surge wash sand into the low-lying foreshore pits, so a partly silted line can go under quickly.
How do I arrange a visit?
Call (07) 3067 4271 and run through which fixtures are playing up. We can usually attend the same day, the plumber confirms the cause and the price on site, and the work starts once you agree to it.
